Our Story

Irina and Igor’s story began more than seven years ago when they met through friends while in high school. Although they started out as “just friends,” they became closer and began dating right before Irina started college. Irina went off to Rutgers University in New Jersey while Igor stayed in Brooklyn, New York. This was their first experience with making a relationship work “long distance” – little did they know it would not be their last!

Igor frequently visited Irina at school and always had a way of making her feel less homesick. He was great at surprising her at the dorms with a bouquet of flowers and a stuffed animal in hand. Between exams, the college years were filled with Broadway shows, adventurous trips, summer vacations, family gatherings, romantic dinners and phone conversations that lasted for hours. Most nights Irina and Igor fell asleep with the phone still glued to their ears! Somehow even after talking for hours, there was always more to say and to laugh about.

After college, as Irina and Igor were planning to reunite in New York City, Igor’s business required him to move to Florida for a few years. This meant an even “longer distance” relationship! This time around it was Irina’s turn to make the frequent weekend trips to visit Igor, surprising him on many occasions just as he surprised her during the college years. While being apart was less than ideal, the couple continued to strengthen their commitment to one another with every passing month. “Distance makes the heart grow fonder” became their motto and JetBlue became their airline of choice. Today, the happy couple is reunited once again – this time for good!

Irina and Igor have come a long way since high school and are looking forward to the future. Through the years, they’ve come to appreciate that time is precious and the importance of making the best of any situation. They are very lucky to have found each other at such a young age and to have experienced so much together. Knowing that this is only the beginning of their love story makes them excited to think of everything that lies ahead.
